R&D and Design

Collection direction, yarn selection and pattern development: a fabric's character is defined here, before it ever reaches the loom.

Fabric is designed here, before the loom

How a fabric will drape, how it will reflect light and how it will feel in the hand are all determined before production even begins, through yarn count, twist level and weaving technique. These decisions are made at the R&D and design stage.

At the start of the season we set the collection direction, then work up yarn and construction trials to match that direction on our sample loom. We determine our collections according to current fashion trends.

What we do at this stage

  • Setting the seasonal collection direction and colour card
  • Trials of yarn count, twist and blend ratio
  • Construction work on the sample loom
  • Custom quality development and recipe creation for the customer
  • Transferring the approved recipe into series production parameters

Bespoke quality development

If the fabric you are looking for is not in our collection, we can develop a bespoke quality based on your target handle and weight. Sharing a reference sample noticeably speeds up the process.
